BONNE TERRE, MO (KPLR) – The winter weather has hit parts of the St. Louis area with quite a punch. The southern counties of the viewing area in Missouri and Illinois got the most snow, anywhere between 5 and 10 inches of snow.

MoDOT and IDOT plows are trying to clear as much as they can. The ice and sleet that came down before the snow on Thursday has been a real trouble maker.

The snow will shut down from northwest to southeast through late Friday afternoon as dry, very cold air settles in from the north. Additional accumulations in metro St. Louis could be around 1/2″, with 1-2″ more falling south of I-44 in MO and I-70 in IL. Temperatures will be bitter cold into the weekend.
