World Series of Poker coming to St. Louis
ST. LOUS, MO (KTVI)– The World Series of Poker tournament is headed to St. Louis this spring and downtown businesses are gearing up. The Lumiere Place Casino and Hotel in downtown St. Louis will make it a hot ticket for players. From March 20-31st the World Series of Poker tournament will be at the casino for the first time ever. General Manager Jeff Babinski says he`s looking forward to big crowds and big business.
“Just from a gaming standpoint we can generate between 1 and 2 million dollars in gaming revenue. That doesn`t include hotel and food and beverage,” Babinski said.
The poker games were scheduled to be in Cleveland, but they had to pull out because of a lack of space and St. Louis picked it up.
Thousands of players are expected to sign up, and the top player will make their way to the finals. Registration costs range from $50 to $1,675, winners can leave St. Louis with $250,000 and a trip to the big million dollar table in Atlantic City.
“We`re going to bring in somewhere between 2,300 and 2,500 players and get about 7,000 entry`s in the course of those 12 days,” he said.
