ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- A Missouri woman is upset about a license plate she was issued last week.

It reads WH0R8X. Deb Levy told Fox 2 it looks like an "offensive" word used to demean woman.

"Who would want to drive around with that word on the back of their car?" she said.

While it is missing an "e," Deb said most people who look at it see a dirty word.

Levy said when she complained she was told she would have to pay $17 if she wanted a new combination of numbers and letters.

"It is not about the money, but when I showed it to them they said it just said who," Levy said. "Can you spell!"

After Fox 2 called the Missouri Department of Revenue Thursday and officials agreed to give her a new plate for free.

"Channel 2 news had to make this happen," Levy said.

Levy said she is happy to be getting a new plate, but until she gets it she is driving with her old expired plate.

"I won't put that offensive plate on my car," she said. "My daughter drives this car."

Had to read the article to find out how this plate was offensive. I kept thinking “who” and then couldn’t figure out how the rest was supposed to read. And I have a warped mind and didn’t see whor(e).

I didn’t see it. I saw “who rate 8”. But my guy saw it right away. I guess I would have been a whore for a while.

Get a freaking life!. Way worse problems in our area than you finding meaning in random license plate numbers. And gardener Philip how is the second one unacceptable?

shaun I think the reason the person thinks who rate x is unacceptable is because it can be interpreted to mean the person driving the car is rated x which wouldn’t speak well of her character anymore than reading it as whor(e) would

When I looked at it, I saw WHO RX8 as in the word Who and a mazda rx8. Get a life lady. if you don’t want the plates then buy new one’s Cheap.

The point being I did not get whore from the plate. Seemed harmless to me. I had to read the article to understand what the problem was with plate. Even after that I didn’t see it. Some people have twisted minds. And I had to look hard to see where the word whore was.

All I could see was Who Rate X until I read… I really doubt many people would have gotten whore from this combination just glancing at it. Little bit of an over reaction I think.
