(KPLR) - It has been a work in progress, but the Lemay Community and Aquatic Center construction kickoff party is well deserved.
Kathryn Jamboretz with the St. Louis Economic Council talked about the road blocks the construction has faced and the reasons for moving to a new location.
The old site was located at Broadway and Kingston, the new location will be inside of Jefferson Barracks Park.
The reasons for moving locations include issues with sinkholes at the old site. There were concerns surrounding the storm water run off and pipelines near the sinkholes.
The new location allows for the same center design and the budget will not have to change.
There is a groundbreaking ceremony estimated for Spring 2013.
The new $12 million center will be open in time for Summer 2014.
