Police catch “Ring Leader” of UMSL robbery & beating
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Bel-Nor Police told Fox 2 News that three people have been arrested in connection with the Sept. 6 armed robbery of six UMSL students.
19-year-old Tremayne Valdez is facing 11 felony charges. Two other suspects are awaiting charges and police said that they are looking for another “person of interest.”
The students were ordered to get on the ground by Valdez and three other men near Natural Bridge and Nordic, according to police. Police also said that one of the students was “pistol whipped” several times.
The suspects stole cash, credit cards and cell phones, according to police. About $1,500 of stolen merchandise was recovered.
Bel-Nor police said three members of the St. Louis Metro Police Department were “key” in catching Valdez. They reportedly arrested him at an address supplied by Bel-Nor police officers. Video from several security cameras was also helpful in the investigation.
The arrests have students at UMSL relieved.
“I feel safer now, but it is something I have to be aware of when I walk outside of campus,” Trevor Newman said. “I am just glad the students are okay.”
