Conservation Connection: Women’s Deer Hunting
(KTVI) – Missouri is a great place to hunt deer and the Department of Conservation wants to get everyone involved! They often hold special programs for youth or beginning hunters. But coming up, they’ll be hosting the Discover Nature & Women’s Deer Hunting Clinic and guided hunt, tailored especially to introduce women to the sport. Dan Zarlenga talks with John Fuller about it.
Q. First, Why Discover Nature & Women?
· It`s a series of programs MDC offers to help get women involved in the outdoors, from hunting to fishing to canoeing
·Research and experience shows that women are often more comfortable learning skills that have been traditionally associated with males in the company of other women
·These programs provide a low-pressure and non-competitive environment many women feel makes it easier to learn
Q. So tell us about this clinic
·It`s a free program with several sessions during September, October and November
·Starts Monday evening, Sept. 30 with an informational meeting and class session from 6-8 to cover details of the program and some deer hunting and firearm basics
·At that time, we`ll determine the remaining classroom sessions
·Participants must also schedule practice shooting sessions at the range on their own (normal range fees will be waived)
Q. When and where does the actual hunt take place?
·Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23 at Shaw Nature Reserve in Gray Summit
·Participants will stay Friday night in cabins at the Dana Brown Center
·Includes all meals on Saturday
·The hunt will be fully guided by trained professionals to ensure a safe and educational experience
·Firearms will be provided for those who do not already have their own
Q. Where can viewers get more details?
·Call Jay Henges Shooting Range at 636-938-9548, ext. 1753
·Or email to firstname.lastname@example.org
·Hunt portion is limited to 10 women, so make reservations early!
