Contact 2: Homeowners finally get answers to trash pickup problem

EAST ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– Two East St. Louis homeowners wait weeks for trash pickup.  The smell was overwhelming so they called Contact 2.      

The homeowners say they expect the service they’re paying for.  The combination of summer heat and uncollected trash is a powerful nuisance.

James Armstrong and his sister’s family live side by side on 10th Street in East St. Louis.  They pay for weekly trash pickup.   But the truck failed to show up four weeks in a row.

They’re worried about rodents, flies and stray dogs getting to the garbage before the trucks pick it up.   They say their bill is current.  That was confirmed when I called the corporate offices for Waste Management Services in upstate Illinois.  A company spokesperson first apologized and then explained.

The trash company says its records did not reflect a name change for 10th street.  It’s now called Katherine Dunham Place.   The Armstrong’s were told a new driver was covering their blockand the name change may not have been noted in his assigned route.
