ORCHARD FARM, M0 (KTVI) – A man doing yard work outside of a church was hit by an out-of-control car and killed around 7:30am Thursday outside Trinity Lutheran Church at Highway 94 and Church Road in the Orchard Farm area.

Highway 94 in this area was completely shut down after the accident, but is no reopened.

Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum says a woman driving a Mitsubishi Lancer on Highway 94 somehow lost control coming around a curve.

Investigators say the car spun around and slammed into Valente Zapata, 59, killing him.

Zapata was using a weed eater to do yard work at the church and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities tell us they believe the car hydroplaned on the road which was wet at the time.

Sgt. Nothum says it's too early to tell whether the 48-year-old woman who was driving the car could face charges.

Investigators say the woman was returning from dropping her child off at school. She was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
