New walking shark species found on ocean floor
HALMAHERA, IDN (KTVI) – This newly discovered species of sharks doesn’t just swim around, it can walk around too.
Discovered near the remote Indonesian island Halmahera, the new species is officially named, Hemiscyllium Halmahera, after the island. Walking is also not their primary method of travel.
Fahmi, a shark researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Science told Fox News they use their pectoral and dorsal fins to touch the seafloor as they swim. They are completely harmless to humans and only grow to about 27 inches long.
