KTRS holds radiothon to raise funds to fight cancer
(KTVI)– It’s a subject everyone has probably talked about.
That’s why a radio station decided to spend an entire day on the subject.
“Virtually everybody has been affected by cancer,” says Alan Epstein a spokesperson for St. Louis Men’s Group against Cancer. “My mother passed away breast cancer in 1980 very young age after a five year battle which is how I got involved 15 years ago with the organization.”
Since that time more than four million dollars has been raised for cancer research, prevention and care.
All by a group of 30 guys.
“That work very hard to give away over 300-thousand dollars a year that stay in this town,” says Epstein.
On Thursday they’re asking listeners to the Big 550 KTRS to call in and pledge a donation.
The money goes to 30 local groups as camp rainbow for kids with cancer or the Ronald McDonald House.
“We bring the entire cancer community together that cancer charities that gain are not gender specific they’re not race specific,” says Epstein.
Thursday afternoon callers were bidding to throw out a first pitch at a Cardinal`s game or say dinner with our own Martin Kilcoyne and his wife.
And the on-air personalities are enjoying the friendly rivalry for a good cause.
“But it’s a great time and she’s a great host and he’s semi literate so it’s a wonderful thing you can do,” says on-air personality Steve Cochran. “Again, all the money, all the money goes to such a worthy cause.”
