BRIDGETON, MO (KPLR) - A fire in a pile of debris waiting to become mulch is burning at a Bridgeton facility.  Several fire departments battled the flames Friday morning, but they have since left.

This facility is located on Missouri Bottom Road, just north of Interstate 370.  Workers were out early spraying water on the fire, but it doesn't appear to be doing a whole lot of good.

Flames were shooting high in the air early Friday morning. Authorities say the fire started around midnight. The business turns wood into mulch. The area that is burning appears to be full of wood, old palettes and other debris.

Officials at the fire dispatch center say the fire grew to two alarms with eight different departments responding.  Fire crews battled the flames for about three hours before turning the scene over to the owners of the facility.

No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is unknown.
