EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI)-- Mike Shannon put down the mike Wednesday night and hit the keyboard for his social media debut on twitter.

He hasn't yet set up his own account. He borrowed the Cardinals twitter account.

So if you're like me, one of the 320,000 followers of @cardinals on twitter, you've been able to see his 140 characters at work.

He's been tweeting under the hashtag Mike Shannon. He's been tweeting at Mike Shannon's Bar and Grill in Edwardsville.

To fill in for Shannon, Al Hrabosky and John Rooney have been doing the broadcasting on the Cardinals radio network.

In addition to comments about the game and personal anecdotes, the commentary you're used to hearing from the broadcasting booth, Shannon has been answer some questions from those in the twitter world.

Mike Shannon has manned the Cardinals broadcast booth, as the voice of the redbirds, since 1972.
