ST. CHARLES, MO (KPLR) – After a two-day trial, a jury in St. Charles County found Charles A. Zidek, 37, of Chesterfield, guilty of felony burglary in the second degree and felony animal abuse.

Zidek was charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home on Kettering Drive in St. Charles while no one was home on the night of October 9, 2011.

Police say Zidek broke a basement window to get into the house. While inside, Zidek was accused of repeatedly striking a greyhound dog named Vinny, the family pet for Zidek’s girlfriend and her two children.

Vinny’s injuries were so bad, he was euthanized.

Hon. Judge Rick Zerr presided over the trial.
