Timelapse: Watch The Science Center’s Explorerdome Deflate
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The Saint Louis Science Center`s Exploradome is being deflated and removed to make way for the Science Center`s largest exhibit expansion. The air-supported structure, opened in 1997 as a temporary facility for special exhibitions and events. In 2011, the Science Center opened Boeing Hall, a state-of-the-art special exhibition and event facility to replace the aging dome which lasted 16 years, twice as long as originally planned.
It had enough air to fill 21 hot air balloons, or nearly 145,000 bike tires. On Monday morning, all that air inside the St. Louis Science Center’s Exploradome came rushing out, to the delight of more than a dozen children clutching their windmills. With its deflation, the Exploradome offered one last learning experience for Science Center summer campers, who now know a little bit more about air pressure.
