Thieves Smash Pharmacy Window to Break Into Walgreens

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – After a smash-and-grab burglary at the Walgreens on South Broadway and Meramec, the store opened on time.  The pharmacy did not.

According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police, two men punched a hole through the thick security glass at the pharmacy`s drive-thru window.  The suspects were seen on a surveillance camera by the building`s security company.  The suspects were reportedly rifling through the pharmacy area.  By the time police arrived, the suspects were gone.  Managers showed let investigators inside, so they can try to figure out what happened here.

A surveillance camera was visible at the front entrance.  But, there was none visible at the drive through on the side of the building where the drive through was located.

This burglary could be the first step to crimes elsewhere.  If the suspects took narcotics like Oxycontin or psychotropic medications like Adderall, they could potentially sell them – illegally of course – on the street.  Patients with legitimate needs for those medications may face a hardship if their prescriptions are missing.

Managers would not comment on the break in.  But, they said the pharmacy would eventually be open.
