DONIPHAN, MO – (KAIT) A record Powerball jackpot inspires a Missouri cashier to sell herself a lottery ticket. While she didn’t win the $600 million; she did collect $1 million.
Mary-Jane Hart works each weekend at the Heartland Pit Stop in Doniphan, MO. The part-time cashier sold herself a powerball ticket when she came into work on Saturday. The jackpot had reached $600 million dollars.
“I’ve always wanted to win a jackpot so that I could go to way more Nascar races than I go to, which is a lot.” said Mary-Jane Hart.
She used the numbers of NASCAR drivers to fill out her powerball ticket, which she checked only after getting a call from work.
“Someone had called me and told me that there was a winning ticket sold at the store, so I went to the convenience store at Poplar Bluff and checked my ticket and it said I was a winner.” said Mary-Jane Hart.
She matched every number but the powerball; meaning she was now $1 million dollars richer. Hart plans to use her winnings to help out her son and also take a trip to Hawaii.
Her coworkers at the convenience store couldn’t be happier. Despite winning the jackpot, Hart says she’ll keep working both of her jobs. She’ll also plans to keep playing the lottery, just as she always has.
“Everybody needs to play lottery because it’s a proven fact that if you think you can’t win, you can.” said Mary-Jane Hart.
