LONG ISLAND, NY (PIX11) – A woman is being accused of faking cancer to pay for her heroin habit Brittany Ozarowski, 21, was telling people that she had bone and brain cancer.

According to WPIX she was accepting donations in jars around Suffolk and Nassau Counties and and on a fake website. People even held fundraisers to help her. Thousands donated to her cause.

On her Facebook page Ozarowki wrote:

“In September of 2011 I was diagnosed with stage two ovarian cancer as well as stomach cancer. After multiple treatments of both radiation and chemotherapy I had beaten cancer as of December of 2011. . . I was cancer free until they had found a tumor on my left hip in February of 2012. That is when I found out I have bone cancer. The cancer has spread to my spine as well as my brain.”

A cancer victim’s father tipped off police. That’s when officers took Ozarowski into custody. She is being held on $5,000 bail.
