Prayers For The Pope From The Cathedral Basilica Of St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, MO. (KPLR) – About 1,000 people gathered at the Cathedral Basilica for a celebration for Pope Francis Thursday.
The celebration was aimed at praying for Pope Francis.
“It’s really an exciting time to be part of this transition, and I had to be here,” Emily Heart said. “I am really looking for him to reach out to the younger generation.”
Heart is a student at SLU and said that she thinks young people are becoming more interested in faith.
“We are the future of the church,” she said.
Officials at the Cathedral started planning the celebration right after Pope Francis was revealed to the world on March 13.
“I was watching on television,” Heart said. “It is just such a unique time.”
During the celebration people sang hymns and read several prayers.
Members of the choir included children and adults.
Those in attendance said the music was beautiful.
The Archbishop of St. Louis, Robert Carlson, was at the celebration.
“It is just great to be here and see all of this go on,” Heart said.
