SOUIX FALLS, SD – Firefighters are searching for two people missing after trying to rescue a child from rapids in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The six-year old boy is fine and with family members. It’s unclear if the people trying to rescue him pushed him to safety, or if he managed to climb out on his own.

According to a fire official, the boy fell in Thursday afternoon. A female relative, who is not his mother, went in after him, and a nearby man also went in. A third person who tried to help described the scene.

“Three of us that had him, and he had a kid, the kid with him but he just slipped, he slipped. I heard him say hold onto me, and I’ll hold onto you and then that was like the last I heard his voice.” said Napolean Ducheneaus.

The other two adults disappeared in the water and haven’t been seen since. Crews planned to work through the night. Early this morning, crews said the search mission was now considered a recovery mission.
