ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The Rams all-time leading rusher is leaving St. Louis. Steven Jackson has agreed to a contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
The Rams voided Jackson’s contract last Thursday, making him a free agent. Jackson was told by Rams management that he would not be the feature back with the Rams in 2013. Jackson has rushed for 10,135 yards in his nine year with St. Louis. He has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of the last eight season he was with the Rams.
Details of Jackson’s new contract with the Falcons were not released. The Rams released this statement on Twitter regarding Jackson leaving the Rams:
“For nearly a decade, Steven Jackson served as an inspiration for his St. Louis Rams teammates and our fans. Off the field, his generosity and unselfishness improved the lives of many families in the St. Louis community. We will always be thankful for his contributions to our team and region and wish him success moving forward. Thanks for everything, @sj39 .”
To the AMAZING Atlanta Falcons Owner, GM & Management team, I SINCERELY THANK EACH OF YOU for making this happen. I EAGERLY anticipate 2013!—
