(YouTube) – A video depicting the unknown future of the East St. Louis Fire Department is making the rounds on YouTube. An unknown firefighter posted the video in hopes of bringing attention to a possible layoff situation in the city.
The video, description says only 53 firefighters remain in East St. Louis and 22 could be laid off in May 2013. The East St. Louis fire chief says a FEMA grant that was given to the department is set to expire at the end of March making the department’s staffing future unclear.
The chief says he hasn’t seen any layoff notices, but he thinks the video may be a proactive move on the part of the firefighter’s union.
