Mendte: Sex Scandals Are Not Ruining America

NEW YORK, NY. (WPIX) – There was a great movie a few years back called the Contender starring Joan Allen as the first woman to be nominated to be Vice-President.

The White House wanted to dig up some dirt on the chairman of the committee who was leading the charge to ruin their nominee.

When an aid mentioned a possible sec violation, the President`s chief of staff played by Sam Shepard went ballistic.

That brings us to the sordid saga of New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez

He was accused of taking trips with a big donor to the Dominican Republic to have sex with prostitutes.

Republican operatives helped set up network online interviews with three of the prostitutes. It seemed as if Menendez might be finished. Even though he denied having sex with the prostitutes, it shows you where we are at in this country, where we trust the word of hookers over our senators.

But now one of the hookers says she never met Menendez and she was paid to make up the story.

Menendez is furious, as he should be and demands a full investigation and there should be. This is the worst kind of gutter politics.

But wait, Menendez still took the trips, still went with a high powered rich donor to the Dominican Republic and didn’t report it. And there is evidence that the donor got access and influence in return for his gifts.

But you see that he can survive.

A sex scandal is front page news. Money for power, well everybody does that. There will be an ethics investigation behind closed doors and the senator will get a slap on the wrist.

That`s where we are at in America. We look the other way at the dirty deals that are ruining this country, because if we threw everyone out of Washington for stealing taxpayer`s money , well there would be nobody left.
