(KPLR) – One in 88 children is diagnosed with autism, but some children get diagnoses earlier than others.

In Missouri African American children get diagnosed on average, about a year later than Caucasian children.

The exact reasons for it are not k now, but some believe education and awareness are an issue.
This week on the Pulse of St. Louis, we take a closer look at autism.

One doctor tells the story of a woman who talked to her about autism among African Americans.

Watch “The Pulse of St. Louis” Saturday night on KPLR11 at 7:00 pm.
