Bernthal- The Way It Oughta Be: Ditching The Penny

(KPLR) – Is it time to throw away the penny?  Here’s JB with The Way It Oughta Be.

I usually end up with change in my pocket after a trip through the drive through.  I have a pile of coins inside my car and a jar at home I deposit whenever it starts to fill up.

Well there’s talk about dumping the penny.   What seems to make no sense is that it costs nearly two and a half cents to make each penny.  To make a 5 cent nickel costs more than 11 cents.

So I don’t know what kind of an uproar there would be if we tried dumping the penny but it sure seems to make sense.

I still pay with cash but I feel like a growing minority.  It seems so many shoppers now use a credit or debit card.

I like using currency it feels more real.  Credit cards have a way of making some spend more than they have.

So I wouldn’t mind doing away with the penny but as long as we don’t do away with the dollar.
