Bernthal- The Way It Oughta Be: Bridge Naming

(KPLR) – There’s been a lot of debate over bridge naming these days.  That’s why I brought my chair to St. Charles.

More than 100-thousand vehicles travel over the Blanchette Bridge each day but I’d be curious to know how many drivers know who Blanchette was.

I bet not many.  Yet somewhere along the line our leaders thought Blanchette was a good idea.

Well Blanchette was a French Canadian explorer credited with discovering St. Charles.

So a bridge naming doesn’t guarantee the name will be remembered.

Some cities sell naming rights on their bridges and use that money to make repairs. I’m not sure that’s the way to go but at least if people forgot the bridge’s name, nobody would care.

I’m JB and That’s The Way It Oughta Be.
