Police: One Fire Intentionally Set, Second Fire Under Investigation

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Two fires close to each other and just an hour or so apart keep crews in south St. Louis busy overnight.

Monday morning, investigators believe the fire at Magnolia and South Grand is likely arson.
Authorities are calling that fire suspicious because multiple ignition points were found.
The St. Louis Police Department`s Bomb and Arson Squad has been called in to investigate.

Firefighters got the call for the fire at a four family flat at Magnolia and South Grand around 1:00 a.m. Monday.  Authorities believe the fire started near the back door.  There is visible damage to both the back and front doors.

Crews were able to contain the flames quickly—minimizing the damage inside.
Police are looking for a person of interest.
In fact, investigators say somebody inside one of the units here saw a woman they knew running away.

The first fire happened just before midnight at another four family flat about four blocks away at Arsenal and Arkansas.  Investigators say that fire started in the basement.
Both bottom floor units were occupied.

Three adults from one of the units were forced out-they received help from the Red Cross.
A fourth woman with a child in that same unit went somewhere else to stay.
The same firefighters fought both of the fires.
Police tell us Bomb and Arson investigators were not called out to the first fire and a cause has not been established.

Investigators are looking into whether the two blazes could be linked but at this point no connection has been made.
