LEAVENWORTH, KS (WDAF) — A special needs student has won his school’s spelling bee and is advancing on to the county competition.

Linda Johnson sent FOX 4 Kansas City an email about her son, Adam John. He was diagnosed as autistic at two years old and had been in special classes for years. He now attends other classes for more advanced children.

On Wednesday, he won the spelling bee at West Intermediate School in Leavenworth, Kan., with the words “consistency” and “prominent.” Watch the above video to see Johnson in action.
