ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Hazelwood East sent this letter to parents to let them know about guns at their school. St. Louis County Police received a tip at 3:00 pm that guns were on school property. Police got permission from the janitor to search his vehicle and discovered several weapons and drug paraphernalia.
The janitor was place under arrest and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. The school district has placed a custodian on administrative leave after guns were found in his car.
There is no indication that the guns were intended for use at the school or to harm anyone.

Dear Hazelwood East Parents,
One of our custodians was arrested by St. Louis County Police today after receiving a tip indicating there were weapons in his car on school property. The District has placed the custodian on administrative leave, pending an investigation. We have not received any information indicating the weapons were intended for use at school or to harm anyone. It is against the law to have weapons on school property, and this is unacceptable.
The safety of our students and staff remain a priority. We will cooperate with St. Louis County Police on the investigation.
