Rescue Crews Train For Ice Emergencies
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Frozen lakes and ponds attract young people who want to skate, play hockey or simply venture out onto the ice. But, an ice rescue is something emergency crews don’t soon forget.
“The victim came out and their arms were frozen and stayed this way til they thawed.” said Captain Aydelott. she says that victim survived and had a good outcome.
Experts advise to stay on the shore use a limb or a rope to help the victim and call 9-11. The Pattonville district trains for ice rescues. They have special suits they wear to keep warm, dry and safe.
If the weather stays cold Pattonville firefighters could begin ice rescue training as early as next week.
