KIRKWOOD, MO (KTVI)– Lackluster and disappointing are just two of the words being used to describe business during this year’s holiday shopping season.
However, some argue it’s not all gloom and doom.
And the story here is one of year to year growth which they say exceeded expectations.
Compared to the national numbers, small business in our area appears to be booming.
If Christopher’s Boutique was a microcosm of the national economy, the nation would be happy.
While national chains struggled to meet high expectations, locals appear to have benefitted from a more intimate knowledge of their customers, and some of that loyalty being returned.
Up the street at the Paper Dolls Boutique, they’re telling a similar story.
MasterCard reports US retailers saw the worst holiday growth since 2008, the height of the recession, less than one percent. Some blame hurricane sandy, other pundits see other problems.
