Americans Living Longer, But Not Healthier
(KPLR) – Americans are living longer, but aren’t necessarily healthier. The 2012 America’s Health Rankings points out fewer Americans are dying from heart disease and cancer, but more have chronic illnesses.
The report highlights troubling levels of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and sedentary behavior in America.
Medical advances are allowing more people to live with those conditions and the U.S. life expectancy is now 78 and a half years.
The report also ranks the healthiest states. Vermont leads the list Illinois comes in at 30th and Missouri comes in near the bottom at 42.
