ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)– If you are looking for a way to enjoy some great music this holiday season without having to leave home we’ve got you covered.
These all-local concerts are airing on our digital sister station KTVI 2.2. These performances have been beautifully recorded all over St. Louis thanks to our partners at the Higher Education Channel and they include a wide variety of music including many of your favorite holiday tunes.
We start this Sunday with a performance by Greek tenor Mario Frangoulis in concert with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance also features Deborah Myers and George Perris.
Then on Sunday, December 9th, it`s a tribute to St. Louis` own Mae Wheeler with an all star line up of local musicians paying homage to the singer known as lady jazz. FOX 2`s Bonita Cornute and jazz aficionado Don Wolff are the hosts.
FOX 2 and KPLR 11 President and General Manager Spencer Koch says our partnership with HEC-TV is all about treating viewers to something special.
The fun continues on Sunday, December 16th, with a concert recorded at the Sheldon featuring a wide array of local artists performing together to raise money for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. It is quite a show.
Then on Sunday December 23rd, with Christmas only two days away, we bring you a festive holiday pops concert featuring the St. Louis Philharmonic joined with the UM St. Louis singers and the Kirkwood Children`s Chorale.
Finally, the series concludes on December 30th with a special episode of the HEC-TV program about the arts in St. Louis called State of the Arts, featuring the music of St. Louis Symphony Concertmaster David Halen and some of his very talented friends.
And these programs are just beginning.
The partnership between KTVI 2.2 and HEC began earlier this year starting with re-broadcasts of the program “State of the Arts” hosted by yours truly weekday afternoons at 1:00.
As for these concerts, they will air Sunday evenings at 6:00.
We hope you enjoy them.
