UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KPLR)-- Jay Nixon is campaigning to be re-elected as Governor of Missouri.  His opponent, Dave Spence has been working hard to make sure that does not happen.

Jobs have been the big issue in the campaign.  Spence insists Nixon has not done enough to bring jobs to the show me state.  Nixon says he`s has helped create thousands of jobs including ones at the G.M. plant in Wentzville and the Ford plant in the Kansas City area.

Spence says as a businessman he was a job creator.  He took a company that employed only a handful of folks to one that now employs several hundred. He says a governor is like the C.E.O. of a business and that he would make a great C.E.O. of Missouri.

Nixon counters that he has kept the state unemployment rate well below the national average.

Spence is a newcomer to politics.  Nixon has been in politics for decades.  He served several terms as attorney general.  He won his last election for governor by an overwhelming margin.  This time polls show the race is much closer.
