(KTVI) - One of the biggest holiday toy drives of the year to benefit kids in need kicks off today in and around St. Louis.

The Marines Toys For Tots campaign helps brighten the holidays for many children.
This is the 8th year in a row that the Marines and Toys R Us have teamed up for Toys For Tots.

Toys R Us is the campaign`s largest retail partner.

The toy giant has collected 3.4 milliontoys since the partnership began in 2004.
Here`s what you can do to help out-- you can donate new, unwrapped toys and baby products at any Toys R Us or Babies R Us store through Sunday, December 2nd.
Monetary donations will be accepted through Christmas Eve.

All of the toys donated at Toys R Us stores will stay within the St.  Louis community...making this a truly local program.

More than 14 million kids are living in poverty in our country—that makes programs like toys for tots even more important.

NBA legend Shaquille O`Neal is returning this year to help the campaign in his role of 'Shaq-a-Claus.'

Marines will be at the Toys R Us stores in Sunset Hills, Ferguson and Fairview Heights today and tomorrow from 9am to 4pm to help collect toys for the campaign.
