GRANITE CITY, IL (KPLR)-- A Granite City cab company says three of its drivers were robbed at gunpoint in one month.

Now the cab company owner and drivers are concerned for their safety.

After three armed robberies in less than one month, Checker Cab Company Owner Terry McEntyre says his biggest concern is not so much the money that's getting away, but that his drivers could eventually be very seriously hurt, or worse.

One of Terry's drivers on Wednesday night suffered a head injury in his robbery incident.

In September, driver David Richards was robbed at gunpoint when he stopped for a routine pick-up.

Richards says the thief that night made off with only the cash in his pocket, which owner Terry McEntyre says is usually not that much.

But what money the criminals do steal, comes out of both Terry's and the driver's own pockets.

The frequency of the robberies has cab drivers concerned about their safety. They're also angry at the thieves.

As for the cab driver from Wednesday night's hit, he is recovering and will be just fine. However, for the rest of the drivers at Checker Cab Company, there's always going to be a concern in the back of their minds every time they get behind the wheel of one of these taxi cabs.

The Madison Police Department made an "off camera" statement that they are investigating these multiple instances very closely and ask  anyone who is robbed to immediately dial 9-1-1.
