Absentee Numbers Drawing Attention In St. Charles County

ST. CHARLES, MO (KPLR)– Absentee balloting in St. Charles County is drawing the attention of election experts and politicians.  In the past the size of the absentee ballot request served as a measure of voter interest and enthusiasm in particular races.

St. Charles County Election Director Rich Chrismer had voters requesting absentee ballots weeks before Missouri allowed the balloting to begin.   “In the presidential election of 2008, in the first two weeks, we got maybe 350 to 400,” Chrismer said.  “But this year people are chomping at the bit we now have 18-hundred.”

The demand for overseas military absentee ballots appears to be increasing as well.  Chrismer expects to send out three times the number requested four years ago.

Walk-in absentees are likely to reach 2500 a day during the final two weeks before the November sixth election.

Chrismer is expecting a 90 percent turnout of registered voters for the election.

The St. Charles County Election Board is located in St Peters just east of the Highway 79 North exit.
