ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI) – The Missouri Department of Transportation was set to meet with St. Charles stakeholders Thursday morning to prepare for large-scale repair work on the Blanchette Bridge.
MoDOT officials announced all westbound lanes over the 54-year-old bridge would close for repairs November 2, 2012. The eastbound lanes would start taking traffic in both directions.
When area workers and parents heard MoDOT would close all lanes in one direction over the Missouri River, they wondered how they would get to work and school on time. Business owners wondered if customers would still come.
In the final weeks before the first large-scale lane closure, MoDOT officials met with those business owners and local government leaders.
They would discuss the bad news (reduced speed limits on the bridge) and the good (two alternate routes). MoDOT also invited other agencies, like RideFinders, who helps commuters find carpools.
MoDOT offers Routes 370 and 364 (Page Avenue) as alternates. There is more information on their website:
