Drunk Driving To Blame For Fatal Crash On I-44

(KPLR) - The Missouri Highway Patrol says one person was killed and another injured in an accident on Interstate 44 early Thursday morning. The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. just past the Six Flags exit off I-44.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says the accident started when a car driven by Matthew Snyders, 44, of St. Louis, lost control of his car, hit the median and ended up stalled in the center lane. An on-coming box truck did not see the car and swerved to avoid it.  The driver pulled over to the side of the road. A double tractor trailer, driven by Joshua Sandar, 34, of Rolla, was behind the box truck and also swerved, but hit the semi hit the car and the box truck.

Sandar was killed in the accident.

The driver of the box truck was not injured.

Snyders suffered moderate injuries. He is charged with DWI and may face other charges later.

All lanes on I-44 have re-opened.
