Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress On Display In Washington, D.C.
(KPLR) – Here’s something we didn’t think we would ever say pounds of red meat are on display at a museum in Washington, D.C. but it’s not just any red meat, it’s the red meat lady gaga wore as a dress at the MTV Video Music Awards. It’s part of a new exhibit. Rene Marsh has more from Washington, D.C.
Lady Gaga turned heads, made headlines and even made meat lovers say “oh my” when she showed up at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in a dress made up of pure meat. Now, the dress; all 25 pounds of Argentinean beef, is on display at the National Museum Of Women In The Arts in Washington, D.C.
It’s essentially been turned into meat jerky. It has been treated with chemicals and slowly dried.
The meat dress and boots the pop singer wore were painted red to restore their color, for Gaga it wasn’t about raw fashion it was a political statement.
Her statement to the press about wearing the dress made of meat was that, if you don’t stand up for what you believe in, that is speaking out against, “don’t ask, don’t tell,” then you’re reduced to a piece of meat
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio secured the dress from Lady Gaga and has loaned it to the D.C. museum as part of their “Women Who Rock Exhibit”
Also on display is Rihanna’s fierce studded bustier and Taylor Swift’s guitar.
There are more than 250 artifacts here and the national museum of women in the arts is the only east coast venue that will host the exhibit.
The exhibit runs until January 6th. In Washington, I’m René Marsh.
