(KPLR) - The Cardinals’ top brass will be picking up hammers and saws today as they help rebuild Joplin, Missouri.  Team president Bill DeWitt will lead a delegation where they will take part in constructing five homes in a designated area called the Cardinals neighborhood.

It was in May of 2011 when a huge tornado devastated the community.  General Manager John Mozeliak, manager Mike Methany, hitting coach Mark McGwire and team officials from the Springfield Cardinals will also be working on the residences.

They will be building the homes along with volunteers from Habitat for Humanity.

The Cardinals will also be taking checks totaling $200,000 to be distributed to four different agencies for children in the Joplin area. The money was raised and donated by Cardinals fans during a special weekend at the ballpark.
