NEW YORK, NY (WPIX) - I am going to ask something of you that I know is all but impossible in this current political environment. I want you to set your ideology and political affiliations aside for a moment to take a look at the voter ID issue.  If you tensed up when I said that you may not be able to do it.

I understand why. There are republicans who think that demanding a photo ID to vote will tilt the election their way. How do I know that because one of them said so. Listen to Pennsylvania's house majority leader Mike Turzai brag at a republican committee meeting after passing a voter ID requirement there. "Voter ID, which is gonna allow governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done."

He's an idiot. But so are the democrats on this issue.  They claim that requiring someone to prove who they say they are when they show up to vote is unconstitutional and will suppress democratic votes. Millions we are told.

If there are millions of people without photo ID. It means you can't drive, get on a plane, get government assistance, get a mortgage, a library card, a video rental card. It is difficult to exist.

Right now 30 states require some kind of ID to vote.  But, for further proof that  this is all political. The laws are only being legally challenged in swing states crucial to the 2012 presidential election

If as much time, money and effort was put into helping everyone who needs an ID get one, the problem would be fixed and their would be nothing to debate.

Again, take away the politics and the idiots and the issue is clear.  Show  an ID at the polls to prove you are who you say you are. Unless you wanted to cheat, it just makes sense.
