Local Teen Band Rocks The Oldies
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Lunar Levitation, a St. Louis-area rock-cover band, sang sixties classics for the final day of Fair St. Louis. The oldest member is only 15.
The band warms up for a final rehearsal at the Highway 61 Roadhouse Bar and Grill in Webster Groves. They get ready to hit the stage for their Fair St. Louis debut.
The break out in the sixties hit “You Really Got Me”. At fourteen, Ryan Hoffman is the lead, but isn’t old enough to drive. He’s old enough to appreciate the history of what he sings.
“The oldies and classics kind of built the idea of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” he explained why they cover the same music their parents partied to. “We really like that.”
Lead guitarist Connor Low is only 12. His cousin started training him just two years ago. Music majors might kill for his fearless solo technique.
“He just taught me some stuff, and I just got a hold of it so quick and easy and I’ve been playing since then.”
Drummer Dominic Anzalone had no stage fright ahead of playing to hundreds at the biggest summer party in St. Louis. He’s also 12, and already jumps in on jam sessions at Roadhouse and Broadway Oyster bar with grown men and women. Anzalone doesn’t seem to feel like he stands out. He has good reason.
“Some of my friends, they like the oldies music,” he said. “So, they’re really familiar. They always will support me.”
The reaction from adults doesn’t hurt.
“Whoa.” Hoffman remembers the dropped jaws when Luna hits the stage. ” Like, they’re really good and they’re really young.”
Every band has a soft-spoken, laid-back bassist ready with something deep to say about music. Lunar levitation is no different. Fifteen-year-old Sigmund Gusdorf had something deep to say about supporting local music.
“A lot of people are really good, but their talent was never found,” Gusdorf explained. “So, I think if you can help them be found, they can get something from the music.”
