Mendte – The Revolving Door Of Women In TV News
NEW YORK, NY (WPIX) – Ann Curry said goodbye to the Today Show and Matt and Al and Natalie all seemed so sad. But, that was Thursday, and less than 24 hours later Savannah Guthrie showed up to replace her.
Man, Matt and Al and Natalie sure got over Ann Curry quickly. But, then again they are used to it. This makes co-host #4 for Matt Lauer in 5 years.
I like Savannah Guthrie a lot on the air and wish her well. But, with the track record for that you may not want to get to comfortable.
It was another clumsy transition for the Today Show. The last one was the uncomfortable hug between Jane Pauley and Deborah Norville. At least they didn`t make Savannah and Ann Curry go through that. But, they could have waited a day.
The bigger problem in TV news is that still after all these years. Men seem to hang on a lot longer than women. Since most broadcasting bosses are still men; the old boys club exists.
The glass ceiling has been tested through the years. But Diane Sawyer may be the one who breaks it for good. I am not saying men on TV news should be fired and the woman saved at all cost. No, no, no. But the same newscasts and shows that talk about equal treatment and equal pay for women should start on their own sets
