DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS (KPLR)- Missouri Department Of Transportation crews will be unable to reopen a portion of westbound I-64 Downtown before Monday morning’s rush hour.  MoDOT says more extensive roadway repairs were needed to the double deck structure than they thought and that is going to keep the lanes between the Poplar Street Bridge and 21st Street closed longer.

Crews remove a top layer of the road surface and then use water pressure to prepare the roadway for resurfacing. Before the road is resurfaced, crews chip out and repair bad spots in the concrete.  Crews found more bad spots than expected.

MoDOT is working around the clock to get the road repaired and reopened. The goal is to have the roadway reopened by Tuesday morning’s rush.

Drivers should use the McKinley, Martin Luther King, Eads, or Jefferson Barracks Bridges Monday morning.  Metro is another option for commuters.
