CENTRAL WEST END, (KPLR) - The world's largest chess piece can now be found in the central west end.  The giant king piece sits in front of the World Chess Hall Of Fame.  It's 14 and half feet tall and weighs more than 2, 200 pounds.

It was put in place Monday as the 2012 U.S. Chess Championships kicks off today.  The idea of the piece is to promote St. Louis as the new "Gateway To Chess."
