U.S. Representative Russ Carnahan filed paperwork Tuesday to run against U.S. Representative Lacy Clay in the Democratic Primary in the 1st Congressional District in August.   Clay has held the post since his election in 2001.
Carnahan, currently representing Missouri's 3rd Congressional District, is looking for a new home after his district was eliminated in a redistricting decision.  The paperwork to run against Clay was filed in Jefferson City.  Political insiders warn say the Clay vs Carnahan race is likely to become divisive for the Democratic Party as the two men battle for the position.  Fox 2 News' Charles Jaco has been following developments in this story for weeks and will have a full report later this evening on Fox 2 News.
