This coming Tuesday, Feb. 7th, is the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, an eight-state earthquake drill. ShakeOut activities for Missouri are supported by the Missouri Emergency Management Agency.
Small earthquakes and tremors occur frequently in Missouri. Thousands of quakes have been noted in the state since 1795 and have been recorded since 1908. The best way to protect yourself during a significant earthquake is to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On”.
DROP down onto your hands and knees so you are protected from falling but still able to move if necessary.COVER your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk. If there is no shelter nearby, only then should you get down near an interior wall.HOLD ON to your shelter until the shaking stops. Be prepared to move with your shelter if the shaking shifts it around.
